About Us
Welcome to the Constance & Buckham’s Bay Community Association web site.
The CBBCA primarily serves an area roughly bounded by Torbolton Ridge Rd, Vance’s Side Rd, and the Ottawa River but reaches farther when a common need presents and welcomes guests and members from across west Ottawa. Our area contains seven villages, from MacLaren’s Landing in the north to Woodlawn in the south, with Constance Bay being the largest. Our mission and our passion, for over 70 years, is to collaborate, advocate, create, and serve. Our Objective is “to serve the best interests of the community”; it is a journey that takes us in many important directions. We welcome and embrace new Partners & new people; if you are also inspired to work in the best interests of the community, we have a rewarding team waiting for you.
IIn our daily operations we manage, operate, and improve a major Community Centre, sports and recreation facilities, and many community spaces. We, through volunteers, professionals, and partners facilitate and support an impressive array of local programs, athletics, social opportunities, events, charitable activities, and services. The diversity of our mandate is reflected through-out our organization; from our 20+ Directors and Associate Directors and our volunteers we are a reflection of our community’s demographic, its needs, and its aspirations. Our tag-line “where community lives” is our call to action and reminds us that we have a shared history, future, and responsibility.
The Northwind Wireless Centre is located in the village of Constance Bay approximately 25 minutes north-west of Kanata. It is at the physical centre of the village and is surrounded by the beautiful Torbolton forest. The Centre was built in 1978 by the amalgamated township of Torbolton which included the area of the CBBCA and neighbouring Dunrobin. The CBBCA, founded in 1946 as the Property Owners Association, took on the role of managing, maintaining, and continuously developing the new centre and community park. It was expanded by the community and the amalgamated township of West Carleton in 1992 and again, with Project Sandhills Phase 1, the city of Ottawa, and Northwind Wireless in 2015. With a building that is now nearly 17,000 ft2, the Centre is a unique rural landmark offering an exceptional range of facilities, programs, services, and events. In the footsteps of those who came before; the Centre continues to be operated, maintained and developed by the CBBCA and its community volunteers and donors in partnership with the municipality. The Centre operates 7 days a week, averages between 90 and 130 hours/week of activities – depending on the season, and receives over 80,000 visits annually.
The indoor facilities include five modern & well equipped function halls & activity rooms, a Fitness Centre, an exceptional commercial kitchen built to inspire groups and professionals alike, and a branch of the Ottawa Public Library. The outdoor facilities, which surround the Community Centre, offer a skateboard park, outdoor skating rink, ball diamonds, playground, volleyball court, Pickleball courts, and soccer fields. The Community Association’s partners provide many services, activities, sports and programs, for all ages, throughout the community. The community is home to a branch of the Royal Canadian Legion which offers a variety of clubs and activities, events, and Health Smart TGIF dinners.
Thanks to our local businesses we have several dining out and delivery options ( Bay Cafe, Carp Creamery, Happy Times, The Legion, The Lighthouse, and the The Point), opportunities to pick up basic groceries (The Lighthouse and The General Store), medicines and prescriptions at the Constance Bay PharmaChoice, video rentals (The General Store), and the services of a beer store and LCBO outlet (at The General Store). A wide range of home-based businesses, services, spas, and daycare are offered by our residents. Foot Care, Meals on Wheels, transportation, and the services of the West Ottawa Community Resource Centre are among an expanding list of services delivered at the Community Centre.
